I asked him
"Do you believe in love"
he giggled "yes"
he breathed in between giggles
and he said something else I can never remember

when he was someone else
I asked him "do you love me"
My father said
"I feel something"
I said "I love you dad"
he said
"I reciprocate the emotion"

I said
"I love you dad"
he said
"do you see the way the wind moves through the trees,
it seems to be sighing"
I said "that isn't the wind dad"

I said "I love you dada"
he said
"the wind on the water makes little waves that break on the shore"
he said,
"believe in me"
I said "I never doubted you"
but I did

he said "believe in me"
I said
"once upon a time I would have followed you to the moon"
but he wasn't listening.
