Litany of the Boy
little lamb
my smooth soft sweet-shanked boy
my milk-white honey rich
Apple-blessed dreaming boy
My fresh stream
My honest day
My open field
my sparkling sky
My morning bliss
my dappled noon
my gift of heaven
my scent of spring
my smile of summer
my sun-blissed boy
My own road home
my early light
my rose at dawn
my giggling stream
my dancing bird
my flower of truth
my daisy-blooded honey haired
berry-dreaming boy
here I rage against my age
my old bones stiffer now
bending less often
and groaning more
my senses quicken
after you my boy
run down the hill
to the place where
you wait
have mercy upon me
lamb of my heart
monitor of my pulse
owner of my dreams
lord of my concupisence
sword of my lust
my reason for life
my treasonous love
have mercy on me
I watch you
shine in the light
mock jealous moons
and challenge the night
sweetness itself
sends you a tribute
kisses the air
with dragonfly wings
- changes my earth
his sleeping breath
is the rainbow in diamonds
melts on the pillow
like love on the altar
his folded limbs
are grace-golden glory
sweet as the pearls
of the seas without anchors
his is the scent of the day without evening
fresh-blossomed delicate
meadow-sweet being
my boy wraps his arms around knees
that are bleeding
treeskinned and pale
like the clouds of the summer
light air from heaven
his face in the morning
delights with the sparrow
make soft winds caressing
his butter-kissed hair
I dream of my boy who is strong and
unyielding
Whose strength lies in sweetness
and sweetness in being
whose own time is now
whose love is unfolding
whose dreams are my beacons
whose day is my life
Bless you my boy
without you I am voiceless
my days without courage
my nights without rest
until I am with you
have mercy my lamb
my blessing of beauty
my master
my boy.
